Narada Michael Walden
Originally by Curtis Mayfield, you can get this track from the 2005 Tribute to Curtis Mayfield CD

We hope you are enjoying the new new inbetween shows! The concept behind the ‘beyond the groove’ show was to keep bringing you music and something slightly different, i.e: Chill-out and relaxation sounds.
For example, in the most recent shows I featured:

  • Cook Daniel – from the CD Dangle Grooves
  • Azymuth – fron the CD Brazilian Soul
  • Jamie Cullum – from the CD Cool Classics
  • Katie Melua – from the CD Call off the search
  • Lee Ritenour – from the CD Festival
  • Fourplay – from the CD Fourplay &
  • Barefoot – from the CD Ministry of Sound, The Chillout Sessions 2006 (D2).

Direct Drive / First Light and Paul Hardcastle
In the early 1980s, Paul Hardcastle played the keyboards on several singles on the Oval record label by the dance music groups Direct Drive and First Light, before going solo.

Guru (RIP 2010)
We learnt of the recent loss of Keith Elam better known by his stage name Guru, he was a member of the hip-hop duo Gang Starr, along with DJ Premier. The name Guru is a acronym that stands for Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal and the less-often used God is Universal; he is the Ruler Universal, which are both references to the teachings of the Nation of Gods and Earths. Here he is performing with Roy Ayers

Various Artists from Hidden Beach Recordings Presents: Unwrapped, Vol. 1 – released back in 2001
There are lots of famous people on this CD. I’m sure you will be able to recognise their distinctive sounds. The label has grown a following with their popular Unwrapped series- instrumental versions of rap/hip-hop hits by contemporary jazz artists. The Owner of hidden beach recordings is Steve McKeever, aka: CEO, Founder and Chief Creative Officer. He has has spent over 20 years in the music industry and also attended Harvard Law School.

Hidden Beach’s first artist to sign to the label was Jill Scott, who, to date, is their best selling artist. The inaugural release “Who is Jill Scott? Words and Sounds Vol. 1” has sold 2.4 million units according to Nielsen, and was nominated for four Grammy Awards. Scott has gone on to release three studio and two live albums and currently stars in the HBO series the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency.

Richard Elliot – from his 1994 CD entitled, ‘After Dark’
I mentioned recently that I had the chance to meet both Richard Elliot and Rick Braun at a recent gig. In my view, for me anyway, the gig of the year.

We end the show with a real blast from the past. One of my earliest memories of bopping up and down in my bedrooms is based on this song!

Our Thanks again to DJ Will Charma for joining us as a guest on this week’s show.
See you next time!

Love Dr Groove

BTW – Here’s a fun video to enjoy!
